The Observatory will focus on fostering a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges inherent in achieving a Just Transition within the global climate agenda.

IE University and IE Foundation have signed an agreement with the Institute for Global Decarbonization Progress (iGDP), an international non-profit think tank focusing on green and low-carbon development, to launch the IE-iGDP Just Transition Observatory. This collaboration aims to create a global platform dedicated to advancing knowledge, shaping policy, and building capacity for a fair and equitable shift to a sustainable future.

The Observatory will encourage collaboration among governments, businesses, civil society, and other stakeholders across critical sectors such as energy, transport, construction, food production, and tourism. By delivering actionable insights and strengthening policymaking and implementation through tailored initiatives, the Observatory seeks to contribute meaningfully to the global sustainability agenda, with a particular focus on investment needs.

One of the key projects under the Observatory’s purview will be the development of a Just Transition Indicator System designed to measure progress and guide stakeholders. The Observatory will also publish an annual report assessing Just Transition efforts in selected countries and host an Annual International Conference alongside a series of webinars to facilitate knowledge exchange. These initiatives are aimed at promoting innovative solutions and addressing pressing climate challenges, ensuring the transition to sustainability is inclusive and just.

“Through the Observatory, we aim to bridge the gap between policy and action, fostering collaboration on a global scale.”

— Manuel Muniz, Provost of IE University

“The Just Transition Observatory embodies our purpose at IE University—creating the knowledge and frameworks that drive real-world impact, transforming people and society for a better future, and fostering positive change globally.”

— Isabela del Alcazar, Chief Sustainability Officer of IE University
